When you are very conscious about how much you have to spend, Christmas, birthdays or any event that involves the giving of gifts can be quite a stressful time and budget or not, there are only so many times you can buy someone the same Lush bath bombs!
I try to give people gifts that actually mean something and are an extension of our relationship. I am one of those people that starts planning a birthday 2 months in advance, but these gift ideas are also perfect if you are reading this on December 24th at 11pm.
GIFT ONE: A MIXTAPE.
Have you ever even met someone who doesn’t like music? This gift is perfect for anyone!
Collect a selection of songs that you and the person connect with: if it is your spouse, include your wedding song; if it is your best friend, include a song that you always sing in the car together! Just bear in mind that it is THEIR CD and not yours so avoid filling the tracklist with your favourite songs but perhaps include a few songs that would remind that person of you if you were ever to be away from them. Try to have quite a few songs on there and if it is a birthday gift, maybe chose a number of songs that is equal to the person’s age, well, as long as they are over the age of 10 at least.
If you want to give someone a gift that will make them laugh, just create a mixtape that has like, 40 copies of a song that annoys the person; just imagine getting Rick Roll’d on your birthday – you’d never forget that…
All jokes aside, If you are stuck on where to start, here are a few songs that might inspire you.
Ok, so hopefully you got the idea! All you have to buy is a CD and for free music that you can download to your computer, you can use TUBIDY you can then just burn those tracks onto a CD but listen to them before you burn them, just incase they’re not good quality.
GIFT TWO: A SERIES OF ‘OPEN THIS WHEN’ LETTERS
These are perfect if this is your last Christmas or birthday that you will spend living with or near the person. They will be able to have a piece of you left over. If you don’t know, ‘open me when’ letters are a series of letters that the recipient can open whenever they need to. For example, when they miss you, they can open the one that says ‘open this when you miss me.’
I would recommend writing at least 30 letters so that they will last the person a while, but you can make as many as you want, to be honest. All you need to buy or have is a bunch of envelopes and some paper. You can also buy sweets or little things to give the person.
Here’s a few that I did for my mum:
‘OPEN ME WHEN YOU DON’T FEEL GOOD ENOUGH’
inside was a mirror and I wrote ‘you are perfect to me’ on the back.
‘OPEN ME WHEN YOU HAVE HAD A GOOD DAY’
Inside was a letter wishing her more good days and telling her that she deserves happiness. I also put a £1 coin in the envelope and told her to buy herself a treat, just to make her good day even better!
Really, you can do anything when it comes to these because the concept itself is very personal. This is a good gift idea because it is something that the person can open long after the day they receive it, which will allow them to relive the moment.
GIFT THREE: VIDEO OR SCRAPBOOK
For this, you will need to buy a DVD and will need to have some sort of video making program. Or you can do it the old fashioned way and just use paper. Either way, you will need to collect a range of images and organise them into your book or onto our video.
Sorry that this is quite a dull post, but it being the holidays and all, there is not much time to get out as much stuff as I would like.
Stay tuned, stay inspired,
